Superior of 1300. Lake Ontario of 500

creasiog. The bottom of the lake is quite
level and composed of soft clay. This
clay is constantly accuuimulaling from
sediment carried down by tributary
breams. The south shore is composed of
easily disintegrated blue, gray, and olive
$hoals and gray sandstone. The western
and northern coast are made ud of lime
.tone of the llelderberg group, which
nuickly yields to the action of the waves.
Consequently both shores constantly are
tontributiog to fill up the bed ol the lake.
The wotk is not rapid, but it is said to
bs as certain as fate.
