Rules and Regulations of the Ninth An
nual Fair of the "Monroe County Ag
ricultural Society," to he held on the
Grounds of the Society, at Strouds
burg, Pa., on Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday and Eriday, October 13th,
14th, 15th and 16th, 1868.
Fees for Admission, Entry Fees,
Admission Tickets, good for the day, 25 rents
U.iliirrn under 12 years, 15 cents.
Carriages, one or two Horses, 50 cents-
All persons who enter animals or other ar
tides for competition will be charged one
dollar, (except in cases specified in the body
of the premium list,) and will be furnished
with a Season Ticket. All subsequent en
tries by the same person will be charged at
the rate of 10 per cent, of the amount of the
premium competed for.
Persons who do not desire to compete for
premiums, may enter articles for exhibition
free of charge ; in which case, however, as
well as in case of articles entered in Classes
13, 14, 13, and 16, admission tickets will
not be riven.
0-The Gates will be opened at 8 o'clock,
a. m., and close at half past 0 o'clock, p. m.,
of each day.
Class 1. Field Crops.
Persons w ho compete for premiums in this
class will be required to present to the Sec
retary an affidavit, properly authenticated,
stating that the ground has been surveyed by
a competent person, the quantity of grain ta
ken therefrom, and to exhibit at least one
bushel of the product to the Awarding Com
mittee for their inspection.

Class 18. Non-Enumerated Articles.
The Committee on this Class will use their
judgment in awarding such premiums as they
think suitable.
INSTRUCTIONS TO COMMITTEES.
1. The Committees on the various kinds of
Horses, Mules, Cattle, Sheep and !wine, are
requested to be particular in ascertaining the
blood of tho different animals. In the class
of Thorough Bredt, particularly, they should
require satisfactory evidencnas regards the
pedigree, age and character of all Slock en
tered for premium-!.
2 The Committee on Agricultural Imple
ments are instructed to keep in view the use
fulness of the Implements to the Farmer, ra
ther than tho workmanship thereof.
3. Tho Committee on Non-Enumerated
Articles, will award such premiums as they
may think proper, on all articles of merit
which have not been provided for inthe gen
eral schedule.
4. The various Committees arc requested
to be careful to NOTICE all articles exhi
bited in their respective Classes, whether
entitled to pren.ie.n s t r nt.
5. If they award a distinct premium on
any article, they v. ill i.ot take tho same ar
ticle in consideration in it general display.
G. The members of tho various Commit
tees will come together at the Secretary's
Office, oil Wednesday, the 1 1th of October, at
2 o'clock, n. ui.. precisely, in order to proceed
to business. And it will pre vcut much coufii-
sion if they will prepare themselves.bcfore lea
ving home, with a list of the different articles
and the premiums offered, under the heads
for which they are respectively appointed.
7. The Chairmen of the different Commit
tees are instructed to make their reports to
the Revising Committee or Secretary, as soon
as possible, in order that the full report may
be ready by the time it will te publicly read. ".
The report must be in at 10 o'clock on tha
morning of Friday, October 1G.
8. The various Committees are requested
to mark wiih an X, each article as it is ex
amined, so that the same article may not re
ceive more than one premium.
0. No person can act us a member cf an
awarding Committee on an article or animal
in which he or she has any interest ; but
must withdraw while such article or animal
is being examined.
10. Where there is no competition, the
withholding of thJ premiums s!:all be at the
discretion of the judges; and in no such in
stances shall they make an award unless the
article be of superior merit, usefulness or in
genuity. And in no case shall a premium
be awarded for an inferior article or unsound
animal.
REGULATIONS.
1. Persons wishing to exhibit are request

description, on the Secretary's books, as ear
ly as possible on the first day of the Fair.
No entries of articles for competition will be
received after 12 o'clock on Wednesday, the
second day of the Fair, except in the classi
of Snced.
2. Animals and articles eniercu iorexniDi--.
tion will have cards attached, with the num
ber as entered on the Secretary's looks; and
exhibitors should in all cases obtain their
Cards previous to placing their stock or ar
ticles on the Fair Ground.
3. Persons exhibiting articles which they
desire to have sold, will be furnished with

cards, announcing the fact that such article
is for sale.
4. No animals or articles entered for ex
hibition can be taken away before the close
of the Fair, except by permission of the Pres
ident, and no premiums will be paid on ani
mals or articles removed in violation of this
rule. 5. All articles or animals offered for
competition must have been owned by the
competitor at least thirty days before the
Fair; and all fruits, vegetables, and grain
must be the growth of the competitor.
G Any article or animal which receives
a distinct premium cannot compete in a gen
eral display, nor shall any one article receive
more than one premium.
7. For all stock exhibited, hay, straw and
water will be furnished without charge; oats
and corn will be supplied at market prices.
8. Any person entering horses, cattle
sheep or swine, for exhibition, without first
consulting the awarding committee (whose
names will be furnished on application to
the Secretary on the first day of the Fair) in
regard to blood, will do it at his own risk;
and if said animals arc not entered in the
proper class, they will not be recognized by
the committee on such class, of which the
awarding committee shall be the proper
judge.
0. All articles exhibited, whether eata
bles or not, must te respected as private
property; and any person detected purloining
or injuring them" will to dealt with accord
ing to law. f
10. All moneys awarded as premiums
shall revert to the Society unless called for
within GO days.
11. An efficient police will te on the
Ground day and night, and the Society will
use all diligence to insure the safety of ar
ticles on exhibition, but in no instance wiM
they be responsible for loss cr damage that
may occur.
12. Exhibitors are requested to take
charge of their goods at the close of the
Fair, and attend to their removal personally.
O-Articles intended for exhibition will
he transported to and from the Depot free of
charge.
