Scrofula, or King's E-vil,
is a -constitutional disease, a corruption of the
blood, by which this fluid becomes vitiated,
weak, and poor. Being in the circulation, it
pervades the whole bodv, and may buret out in
disease on any pare 01 11. wyiu is uco irom
its attacks, nor is there one which it may not
destroj'. The serotinous taint h variously caused
by mercurial disease, low living, disordered or
unhealthy food, impure air, filth, ami filthy
habits, the deprcjsing vires, awl, nhovc all, by

it i-? hereditary in the constitution, descending:
"from parents to children unto the. thud and
fourth generation;" indeed, it seems to be the
red of Him who says, " I will visit the iniquities

Its effects commence by deposition fiom the
blood of corrupt or uiceiou-i matter, which, in
the lings, liveri ar.d internal organs, is termed
tr.') .'ivies; in the glands, swellings ; and on the

lio.i, which genders in the blood, depresses the

of oilier diseases: consequently, vast numbers
perish by disorders which, although not scrofu

tion which decimates the human family has its

and many destructive diseases of the liver, kid
neys, bruin, and, indeed, of all the organs, ariao

One quarter of all our people arc scrofulous ;
their persons arc invaded by tills lurking infec
tion, and their -health is undermined by it. To
cleanse it from the system we must renovate the
