Scrofula, or King's Evil,
is a constitutional disease, a corruption of the
blood, by -which this fluid becomes vitiated,
weak, and "poor. Being in the circulation, it
pervades the whole body, and mar bnrst out in

by mercurial disease, low liTimr, disonicmi or
unhealthy food, impure air, filth, and filthy

Its effects commence by deposition from the
blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in
the Iuii' liver, and internal organs, is termed
tiilicn-Ies ; in the glands, swellings ; and on the
eurfacc. eruptions or sores. This foul corrup
tion, which genders hr tho blood, depress es the
energies of life, so that scrofulous constitutions
not on'.v sulfef from scrofulous complaints, but
thev haVe far less power to withstand the attacks
of "other diseases: consequently, vast numbers
perish bv disorders which, although not scrofu
lous m "their nature arc still rendered fatal by
