Proposed Change in the Law for the Collection of Wages. Pike's Peak Gold Eegion. There is no doubt that a large portion of the glowing and seductive accounts of the glittering attractions at Pike's Peak, are put in circulation by parties interest cd in inducing immigration in that di rection. Now. and then there comes i oounterstatement which rcprfscnts quite a different condition of -affairs. In th last Kansas City Journal of Conwierce there is published a letter from the late mayor of Nebraska City, in which th Pike's Peak gold mines arc emphatically denounced as a humbug, and the friends of the writer are earnestly advised to ftay away from them. He gays that his com pany "have found the best qualify of gold yet discovered, and cannot make one dol lar per day." The letter (which is s private one) concludes as follows: "We were quite surprised a few days fimce when we read the gold accounts in tbe Missouri river papers, of what ihe miners arc doing out here. I pronounce them a pack of lies, written and reported back by a set of piety one horse town speculators, and are calculated to ruin many a poor devil besides your humble servant. That there may be gold discpv ered to pay, I will not deny hope it will. I am here, a"nd may as well stay until atisfied. Should anything turn up, I will inform you.
