An Iri.iuman named McCnrty, at Port Cheater, N. Y., attempted to run away from his wife with all the money earned by her as a washerwoman, for clothes and articles given to her to wa.-h. Just be fore the cars started, Mrs. McCarty came running, and out of breath, looking over the baggage and identified her trunks. She next found her husband, collared him, gave him a i-cvere trouncing, tore his coat off his back and ordered him to walk back home. Mr. McCcrty obeyed. The Erie Canal contains more water and floats more vessels than any canal in SSurope, and has 5,563 vessels ou its reg ister, of which 1,449 are larger than the one on which Columbtis discovered Amer ica.
