Caution. IiOttcry Frauds.
The Commissioner of iho Maryland State
lotteries has deemed it his duty to caution
ihe Public against the numerous Swindlers
who circulate by mail and otherwise, fraud
ulent Lottery schemes, and pretend to be
agents for the sale of tickets in Lotteries
which are wholly fictitious.
The only legal Lotteries in Maryland are
those drawn daily under the superintendence
of the Commissioner elected by the people ol
:he State under the new Constitution to ex
amine and approve the schemes and attend
to the drawings.
All the tickets in these Lotteries and all
certificates of packages of tickets have the
lithographed signature F.X. Buenan, Gener
al Agent for the Contractor. Office of the
Maryland Consolidated Lotteries, Baltimore,
Md. All others are fraudulent.

Will and Testament of Wm. Fowler, late
of the Borough of Stroudsburg, in the
County of Monroe, dee'd. will sell at pub

Thursday, the 23d day of August,

A Farm situated in Stroud township,
Alonroe county Pa., adjoining land of
John Ilansbury, George Houck, Alexan
der Fowler and others, containing about
100 Acres,
about 75 acres cleared, enclosed with a
good fence, and in a high state of culti
vation, of which 20 acres are Meadow,
the balance is well timbered with Oak,
Chesnut and Hickory. There are about
20 acres of excellent meadow bottom yet
to be cleared. The farm is well adapted
to grazing.

Broke jail on tbe night of the 24th
of July inst., four prisoners, named and
described as follows:
William Campbell, an Englishman, a
bout 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, full
face, fair skin; was confined on charge of
Murder, and is aoout oo years or age.
Patrick Cullen. an Iriahman, about 5
feet 11 inches high, dark hair, dark skin,
weighs about 175 or 180 pounds, about
ou years ot age.
James Gorman, an Irishman, sandy
hair, red face about 5 feet, 7 inches high,
considerable freckled in the face, about
25 years of age.
Dennis McCarty, an Irishman, about 5
feet 9 inches high darU hair, spare iace,
weight about loU 3D or 4U years or age.
These men were encased working on

the Railroad, near the Forks, at the time
they were apprehended, and probably
may be found in that vicinity again.
25 will he paid to any person who will
apprehend either of the said prisoners,
and return them to tbe jail of Monroe
county, or 100 ior all ot them.

Be it enacted by the Chief Burgess
ana Uommom Council of the Borough of
Stroudsburg, and it is hereby enacted by
me auiuonty ot the same,
That Franklin Street be crraded. Davod
with good brick, and curbed with stone,

on Dotu sides ot said street, from Eliza
beth'street to Monroe streot. and around
the public buildings on said street, by the
first day of August next. The same to
be done under the direction of the Town
Council, and according to the survey
as to height and width made by the
said Council.
And further, If any person or persons
owniug property on said Franklin street,
neglect or refuse to have the same graded,
paved and curbed in pursuance of the a
bove enactment, within the time therein
specified, the said Council after the expira
tion of the said time, will have the same
done at the expense of said owners of prop
erty according to the act of Assembly, in
such case made and provided.
Be it enacted by the Chief Burgess and
Common Council of the Boroujih of
Stroudsburg, and it is hereby enacted by
the authority of the same,
That the south side of Elizabeth street,
from Jacob Street to the lower end of the
pot now occupied by John Boys, be gra
ded, paved with good brick, and curbed
with stone on or before the first day of
September next. The same to be done
under the direction of the Town Council,
and according to the survey as to
height and width made by the said Coun
cil. And further, If any persons or persons
owning property on the south side of said
Elizabeth street, from said Jacob street
to the lower comer of said lot now occu
pied by John Boys, refuse to have the
same graded, paved and curbed in pur
suance of the above enactment, and with
in the time therein specified, the Town
Council, after the expiration of the said
time, will have the same done at the ex
pense of said property owners, according
to the Act of Assembly, in such case made
and provided.
