OF THE
tonn Medical University of Philadelphia.
The Fall Term of this new Medical School
for Ladies, will commence on the first Mon
day in Oct'r, 1S54, and continue four months.
The System of Teaching, here pursued, is
entirely new, and is more comprehensive,
thorough, liberal and practical, than that of
any oilier Medical School in the country. It
"is based, as far aa possible, upon the positive
"Sciences, consequently, free from nil sects
nd dogma a. The branches of study are di
vided according to their natural order of suc
cession, and taught in four progressive cour
ses of four months each ; there are two cour
ses m each year, thus enabling the students
to pass successively through all four courses
within two years. By this arrangement the
tudy is rendered easy, and possessed of daily
increasing interest.
Ladies desiring a thoroughly scient fic Med
ical Education, or any part particularly in
teresting them, have facilities here nowhere
lee to be found.

Testimony of the Professor of Obstetrics
in Penn. College, Philadelphia " Da IIun

ibis work, unlike the majority of those who
advertise lo curs the diseases of which it
treats is a graduate of one of the best Col

pleasure to recommend him to the unfortu

successful and experienced practitioner, in

Jos. S. Longshore M. D.
From A Woodward. M. D., of Penn. U
niversity. Philadelphia. It gives me pleas
ure to add my testimony to the professional
ability of the Author of the "Medical Man
ual." Numerous caes of Disease of tha
Genital Organs, some of them of longstand
ing, have come under my notice, in which
nis skill has been manifest in restoring to
perfect heallb, in some causes where tha
paiicnt has been considered beyond medi
cal aid. In the treatment of Seminal weak
ness, or disarrangement of lhe functions
produced by self abuse or Excess ofvene

Author some thirty years, and deem it no
more than justice to hun as well as kindness
o ihe unfortunate victim of early indiscre
tion, to recommend him as one in whoso
professional kill and integrity they may
safely confide themselves.
Alfred Woodward, M. D.
"This is, without exception, the most,
comprehensive and intelligible work pub

dresses it -st? 1 1 to lhe leason ol its readers.
It is tree from all objectionable matter, and
no parent, however. lastidious. can object to
placing it in lhe hands ol his sons. The
author has devoted many years to ihe treat
ment of the various complaints treated of,
and, with too little breatn to puff, and too
utile presumption to impose, he lias offered
to the world, at the meieiy nominal price of
'Jo cents, the fruit of some twenty yeai'
most success) ul practice."' Herald.

A Fiesbyterian clergyman in Ohio, writ
ing ol " Hunter's Meiiic.il Mamiat" savs :
Thousands upon thousands ol our youth, hr
evil example aud influence of the passions,
hae been led into the habit of sell pollution,
without realizing the sin and learlul conse
quences upon tneuiselves and their posteri
ty. The constitutions of thousands who
ire raiding families have been enfeebled, if
not broi.eu down, and they do not know tha
cause or the cure. Anything that can bo
lone so to enlighten and influence the pub
lic mind as to cheek, and ultimately to re
move this wide spread source ol human
wretchedness, would confer the greatest
idessutg next to the religion of Jesus Christ,
on the present and coming generation In
temperance (or the use of intoxicating
dunks) though it has slain thousands upon
thousands, is not a greater scourge to the
human race. Accept mv thanks on behalf
of ihe afllicted, and, believe me, your co
