Two ladies appeared a few days ago on

age, dressed in -livery, consisting of tight

Daring Robber y, Miss McNeill,
daughter of Gen. John McNeill, and a
neice of President Picrec, was met iu one
of thc public streets of Washington, by a
ruffian, knocked down and robbed of her
purse, containing about 530, certificates
of stock amounting to $2000, and a val
uable diamond pin. Thc blow was so se
vere that sho was rendered insensible,
and whilst in this condition was robbed.

thc public business than any di.-play in
debate. He delivered but four or five
speeches during the sis years he served,

soldiers of the war of 18l2. His, course

encroachments of the South, and the ex
tension of the peculiar institution. In

discharged thc responsible trust3 confided
to them in a manner more creditable to
themselves and more acceptable to their
constituents.

party for the highest office in the State,
a centleman combining in an eminent dc
gree the necessary qualficatious, not only
for a successful candidate, but also for
the discharge of the high duties of the
office in a faithful, enlightened and pa
triotic manner. He comes before thc
people with a frank avowal of the princi
nles which will govern him if successful,
and he would scorn to seek popularity at
