Clark's Patent combined grindingand bolt
ing mill, is an invention which cannot fail
coming into general use, turning out as it
does from the wheat extra flour, superfine,
middlings, ship stuff and bran, at a single op
eration, and in the most complete manner.
This tiuly scientific mill fills a space of but
three feet in diameter, and five feet high, is
worked by a single shaft, capable of grinding
and bolting from three to ten bushels of wheat
an hour, and can be propelled by any power
from four horse, to any which may be desired.
The entire cost of a mill calculated to make
one barrel of flour to the hour, does not ex

Volume IX of the Scientific American
commences on the 17lh of September. It is
chiefly devoted to the advancement of the in
terests of Mechanics, Inventors, Manufactur
er's, end Farmers, by the diffusion of useful
knowledge upon these important branches.
It is edited bv men practically skilled in the
arts and science?, and is widely regarded us
a sound and able journal. Nearly all the
Valuable Patents which issue weekly from
the Patent Office are illustrated with
Engravings, and the Claims of all the Pat
ents are published in its columns; thus mak
ing the paper a perfect Scientific and Me
chanical Encyclopedia for future as well as
present reference. The Scientific Ameri
can is very extensively circulated its circu
lation in the last Volume exceeding 18,000
copies per weelr. it is in torm lor binning;
each volume contains Several Hundred
Engravings and over Four Hundred Pages
of Reading Matter, with an Index. The
practical rcceijds alone are worth to any
family much more than the subscription price.
Ihe Publishers offer the following valua
ble prizes for the largest list of subscribers
sent in by the 1st of January next: 100
will be given for the largest list; o fur the
second; -$50 for the third : $45 for the fourth;
$40 for the 5th; 35 for the 6th; 830 for the
7th; S25 for the 8th; S20 for the 9th ; SI5
for the 10th; 810 for the 11th; and 85 for the
13th. The cash will be paid to the order of
the successful competitor, immeadiately after
January 1st 1854.
Terms : One copy one year, S2; one copy
six months, SI; five copies six months, 84;
ten copies six months, 8; ten copies 12
months, 15; fifteen copies twelve months,
$22; twenty copies twelve months, $28 in
advance.

Post Office Stamps.
TO POSTMASTERS. The advertiser,
Postmaster at Pleasant Grove, Alleghany
county. Maryland, s the first person in the
United States who conceived and undertook
extensively to furnish all the post-offices in
the country with cheap stamps. All stamps
made by him are warranted equal if not su
perior to any other that can be procured fir
the same price. Whenever any are gent
out, in any manner, defective or unsatisfacto
ry, duplicates will be forwarded, on notice,
without extra charge. All who order a set
of Stamps, with a full set of changes for
dates only two dollars (for thirty nieces) shall
be kept in stamps, adliditum. Full set, wivfe
change one dollar.
When stamps are neatly made, with turned
handles and screw, same style as the regu
lar post-office stamps, durable, efficient and
warranted, one to two dollars only, and spe
cial authority to send by mail free.

Came to the premises of the subscri
ber, in Lower Smithfield township,
Monroe county. Pa. abour the 3d of October,
18o3, three head of young cattle: Two year
lings, the one a brown heifer, the other a red
and white steer, the head most all white; the
two year old a heifer, dard red, with some
white spots. The mark on all is a scollop out
under the right ear. The owner or owners
thereof are hereby requested to come forward,
prove property, pay charges and take them
away, or they will be disposed of according to
