There is nothing to hinder farmers from
preparing superphosphate of linieforthem
wlres. For the guidance of those who
wish to do so, and who are unacquainted
with the method, we give a few practical
liiats, chiefly from the writings of Profes
sor Way, and from a paper, of the Lock
erbie Farmer's Club, drawn up, we pre
Msroe, iy an enlightened agriculturist, Mr.
Stewart, of Hillside.
A pair of substantial water-tight tubs
1113 be got by butting a large barrel a
cross the middle. Into these the bones;
the more Gncly ground the better, are put
Iry weight. The tubs may be filled with
bones to within fifteen inches of the brim.
Jdoisicn the bones with fully one fifth
their weight of the water from the rose of
x watering can, turning them over care
fully so that they may be equally sutured.
As scon as this is done add the sulphuric
acid, in quantity from -10 to -15 per cent,
of the weight of the bones. The acid
mnsl be verj cautiously put over the
bones, to' avoid danger to the bauds and
eloihes. As soon as practicable stir up
the bones with a fork, to make sure that
tall the bones come in contact with the
acid. In doing this stand to the wind
ward of the tub, to lesson the danger from
slie effervescing liquid. After the bones
have been carefully turned over, the
tub may be covered with an old cloth to
preserve the heat, and left twenty-four
hours, by "which time the process should
be complete.
-If raw bones are used instead of
ibones that have been boiled for the pur-
j0!e of extracting the fatty matter and
(. (clatiup, ten per cent, less of acid will

rr ingredient, and when more than enough

'The compound heap is now sliced

thoroughly mixed stud made small with
an iron rake. After having gone over it

In calculating the amount, to he applied
to Ibe crop, if the compound contained,

When lhe hones are prepared for light
land, it is advisable to use a rather less
proportion of aoid. The process is there
hj cheapened; and if small fragments of
Lonet remain undissolved, the are high
Ij -aseful in that state for sustaining the
auto Bin growth of crop.
