ESOTERIC ANTHROPOLOGY,

l-rehetisive and confidential Treatise on the.
Structure. Functions, Passional Attractions

id Sncial Conditions, and the most inti
use Halations of Men and Women,
Ti-r title. Esoteric Anthronolocv, will
sccm strange to many, but it is thoroughly
rr?ripriajc. Anthropology is from Anthra
xes a man, and Logos, a description. liso
tci.c, from Eso, within, signifies private, se
c ret, interior, and was used by the ancient
I h !osnpher3 to distinguish their private
Jrctures, given in the interiors of their
dwellings, upon the sacred mysteries of
iic:ece and philosophy, to their chosen dis
tiples, from their Exoteric discourses,which
were niven to the public. Esoteric Anthro-
polngy is, therefore, a private treatise on
Human Anatomy. Physiology, Therapeutics
und Obstetrics on the whole science ol
man plain in language, full and faithful in
nlustraiion, and written with all the frank
i.csp of a private letter, under the seal ol
iro essional confidence. Jt contains the
l.igt-ebt and deepest truths in every depart
ment of Human Physiology, with their indi
Mu'ual and social application; the true na
Viire and hidden cause of Disease; the con
f.ll!ons of Health, physical and passional;
z'A that information which every human be
.-:. needs, which few dure ask for, or know
how to obtain, but which, amid the discord
:nccs and depravities of civilization, is of
i ncelesi value.
There are many subjects connected with
f;e 1 rtad science of Human Life, of thr
t cp j est and most vital interest to man and
te race, in regard to which a terrible igno-
i mcp every here prevails; an ignorance
.!.jch is destroying the healths, shortening
the lives, and sacrificing the happiness oj
i::?;iin;i which threatens the power of na
r.;.s, rnd the perpetuity of races.
1 recessional works on Physiology are dry.
r .criiaaifal, or chemical, astonishingly ig
:. l-ani, as well as technically incomprehen
kA . The popular works are superficial,
i.. eager, and necessarily wanting in the
u.r.st important matters. The quack buok
re fuil of errors, false in science, absurd
ii philosoph)', rr.ischeivous in morals, and
;tsc!v rneccenary in their motives. In most
ises these books are the adveitisinc medi
i:tn of some specious charlatan, who wants
I atients, or letters of consultation, or wiio
a.is some instrument to sell, or some nost
i.m U palm off upon the credulous.
The world has need of a different book
from any uf these such a book as has never
Veen written, and as cannot now be publish
ed m the usual way, sold by booksellers, ol
hawked by agents or peddlers. The author
f CbOtcric Anthropology, a Teacher, a
Physician, a -public and private Lecturer on
al branches of Medical Science, has writ
ten this book with a frankness he never
could have used in a work for the public, or
one open to criticism. It is for his pupils
and patients, for intelligent men and women,
who wish to understand the deepest mysie
r es of life; especially it is for the noble ant:
l.ereoio few, who are brave enough to cxa
mu;e and accept new truths, and wise e
nough to profit by them. There can scar
ely be any important question, which any
nan or woman can ever need to asti a phy
Etnan, to which this volume does not ton
On an answer. It is so complete in this
if f-pert, that the author hopes and believes
it.: no one who reads it will ever need to
iro'jblc himself with a professional consulta
ixn It is henceforth his chosen method oi
tncihcal instruction and practice, and in it
he las jei formed the duty he owes man
l.ir.d as a healer of the sick, a preserver ol
fcfa'ih, and a teacher of the Laws of Life.
Among the subjects treated of in this
work, are the following: Man, and his reta
ins to the Spiritual and Material Uuiverse
U man Anatomy; the Chemistry of Man;
Pxirciples of Physiology and the Active
Ff.rces of Nature; The Three Groups ol
Factions, Organic, Animal, and Genera
tive; The whole Philosophy and Processes
f Reproduction; The True Law of Marriage
The Conditions of Health; Causes of Disease;
tralivt Agencies; Processes of Water-cure;
T-seases and Treatment; Passional Diseases;
Lipases of the General System; Brain
t.nJ Nerves; Respiration: Digestion; Genera
Tn; Gestation and Parturition; Lactation
r'-.d the Management of Infancy, etc., etc.,
riclufing every important condition and pro
rcss from the beginning to the close of life,
trd containing especially
I. A clear and amply illustrated view of
,we structure of the human body, and ail its
c-tr.plex organism, male and female.
2 A full account of the functions of life,
v. 'th such an illustrated description of the
r volution of the embryo, as has not before
i ten given.
3. All that is known of health and dis- i
ease, with the means for the preservation olj
Kit former, and cure of the latter.
4. So careful an explanation of the whoie
process of gestation and childbirth, as will
enable every woman to dispense with the
f-ervites of a physician or professional mid
wife. Esoteric ArniiaopoLOGY is plain and
ft'mpio in language, lull in illustration, as
comprehensive as the utmost curiosity can
'tsh, and without one line of quackery, or
:he remotest hinting at a Jee.
It must be evident that such a book, writ
ten with the necessary freedom, and illus
trated with fullness and fidelity, must not be
piqfaned. It is not for the counter, the
hook stall, the library shelf, or the center
table It is not to be offered for curious ex
amination, nor urged upon those who can
t ot appreciate ils value. It is advertised,
t'jat every one who needs it may obtain it,
jfhe will. Whether the social proprieties be
true or false, the auhor can not violate them,
and he feels compelled to keep this book truly
esoteric, a private work, to be sent as a con
fidential answer to a professional consulta
tion, and he trusts that no person will apply
for it who xoill not make it a point of honor
to so consider it.
To all such persons it will be sent BY

pain in the side, back, chest, limbs, &c. sud

of spirits, can be effectually cured by
Dr. JJooflands celebrated German Bitters,
PREPARED BV
Dr C IU Jackson,
at the German Medicine Store, 120 Arch st.
Philadelphia. Their power over the above
diseases is not excelled if equalled-rby
any other preparation in the United States,
as the cures attest, in many cases after skil
ful physicians had failed.
These Bitters are worthy the attention of
invalids. Possessing great virtues in the rec
tification of diseases of the Liver and lesser
glands, exercising the most searching pow
ers in weakness and affections of the diges
live organs, they are wilhal, safe, certain
and pleasant.
Head and be Convinced.
From the Boston Bee.
The editor said, Dec. 22nd-Dr Iloojland's
celebrated German Bitters for the cure of Li
ver complaint, jaundice, dyspepsia, chronic
or nervous debility, i3 deservedly one of the
most popular medicines of the day. These
Hitters have been used by thousands, and a
friend at our elbow says he has himself re
ceived an effectual and permanent cure of
Liver complaint from the use of this remedy.
We are convinced thai, in the use of these
Biltersthe patient constantly gains strength
and vigor a fact worthy of great considera
tion. They are pleasant in taste and smell
and can be used by persons with the most
delicate stomachs with safety, under any cir
cumstances. We are speaking from experi
ence, and to the afflicted we advise their use.
'Scott's Weekly,' one of the best Liter
ary papers published, said, Aug. 25
4Zb Hoojland's German Bitters, manufac
tured by Dr. Jackson, are now recommended
by some of the most prominent members of
the faculty as an article of much efficacy in
cases of female weakness. As such is the
case, we would advise all mothers to obtain
a bottle, and thus save themselves much sick
ness. Persons of debilitated constitutions
will find these Bitters advantageous to their
health, as we know from experience the sal
utary effect they have upon week systems,"
More Evidence.
The Hon. C. D. Hineline, Mayor of the
City of Camden, N. J.,says:
' Hoojland's German Bitters. We have
seen many flattering notices ofthis medicine,
and the source from which they came induced
us to make inquiry respecting its merits.
From inquiry we were persuaded to use it,
and must say we found it specific in its ac
tion upon disease of the liver and digestive
organs, and the powerful influence it exerts
upon nervous prostration is really surprising.
It calms and strengthens the nerves, bring
ing them into a state of repose, making sleep
refreshing.
"If this medidine was more generally used
we are satisfied there would be less" sick
ness, as from the stomach, liver, and nervou9
system the greal majority of real and imagi
nary diseases emanate. Have them in a
healthy condition, and you can bid defiance
to epidemics generally. This extraordinary
medicine we would advise our friends who
are at all indisposed, to give a trial it will
recommend itself. It should, in fact, be in
every family. No other medicine can pro
duce such evidences of merit."
Evidence upon evidence has been receiv
ed (like the foregoing) from all sections of
the Union, the last three years, and the strong
est testimony in its favor, is, that there is
more of it used in the practice of the regulor
Physicians of Philadelphia, than all other
nostrums conbined, a fact that can"eaisily be
established, arid fully proving that a scien
tific preperation will meet with their quiet
approval when presented even in this form.
1 hat this medicine will cure Liver Com
plaint and Dyspepsia, no one can doubt after
using it as directed. It acts specifically up
on the stomach and liver; it is preferable to
calomel in all bilious- diseases the effect is
immediate. They can be administered to
female or infant with safety and reliable ben
efit at any time.
Look icell to the marks of the genuine.
They have ihe written signature of C. M:
JACKSON upon the wrapper, and his name
qlown in tho bottle, without which they are
