that throughout Aluchua, Columbia and Mari
on counties, cotton is in an excellent state of
forwardness, and bids fair for a heavy crop,
the additional ground planted this season
warranting; the estimate that the product of
thisyear will be double that of the last or
about 10,000 bales. The tobacco, so far as
transplanted, looks well, particularly in Ma
rion county. The arrowroot which has been
set outlooks well and a considerable quanti
ty will be manufactured the ensueing season.

money enough, can obtain as many line
new potatoes as they want, fresh from
Bermuda, for thrce dollars a bushel; as
paragus, for fifty-six cents a bunch; straw
berries, one dollar a basket, or fifty cents
a mouthful; green peas, fifty cents a half
peck; tomatoes, thirty-seven and a hal
" cents a quart. Ihe latter come from
Bermuda, wrapped in paper and packed
. in boxes, in the same manner that oran-
ges are imported. Most of the green
vegetables are brought from Charleston ;
potatoes also, as well as from Bermuda

Allcghen' Enterprise states, that on Friday
last, a man named Cassell, captnin of a sec
tion boat on the Pennsylvania canal, when
near Freeport, got off the boat to fasten a
line on the berra side, and, while doing so,
was stabbed by some villain, and died imme

'neighborhood, but were unable to find the
murderer. The murder created a great ex
citement in Freeport, and a large number of
. the citizens started in search of the wretch,
butxhe latest accounts state that he had not
yet been recovered. The darkness of tbe
night prevented those on the boat witnessing
