day. tended somewhat to check the rapid
turn which some of the leading articles had
taken downward on Friday and 'Saturday,
;though there to still a great want of confi
dence manifested, and until it has beM par
tially restored, we need not expect any Imme
diate improvement. Trade in our produce'
markets continueadull. and It Is now appa'
rent that prims were carried up more. by a
speculative mania than by any legitimate de
mand. especially on flour .d wheat; the lit
ter, for August delivery, has declined ISB

course, has not been without its effect on
Cone. as the one, most of necessity, go with
the other. - Sugars and Coffees were a Made
stronger to-day, owing to the advance In
gold. Provisions firm with a good demand

The supply on sale to-day was fair, reaching
close en to 1.000, and as In the case of cattle.
they were nearly all of the lower grades, and
out of the 1600 on wale, we no not believe there
were one hundred of what might be styled
first class sheep. Of common and medium
there was a full supply, and those butchers
who handle this particular grade. had no dif
ficulty In getting all they wanted, and that.
too, at pretty touch their own priers. We are
cognLtant of one drove of this kind having
been sold to a butcher at 20d per head, or
nbout 3 cents per pound, while on the other
nand we were assured by 'n butcher who al
ways buyes the-best._thar. he paid LX cents
per pound and then got:l:mating extra,but the
bent he could find. Prime sheen may be fair
ly quoted at Sa.5X, - and extra. - of which there
were none In market, would, no doubt. have
