of the Bishop Bowman Institute's Belles ',e

Saturday night, shortie before the hour of
ten. one of those terrible alien( which ap
pal the heart and call out the deepest sympa
thien.• occurred on the New Brighton rind,
'about four miles from the city. The locality
of the circumstance was the house of Joseph
Munseb. which was destroyed by are. two chil
dren perishing In the flames.

back from the New Brighton road. Surround
ing it was n farm, owned' by Mr. George Erne
rich, who bad placed it in charge of Mr.
Munsch. The inmates of the house 4

The chit ren who occupied a room on the
second had all retired. William Kerr and
Joseph .Mnosch, aged four years, occuPyins
n bed In one corner of the room: and other,.
a boy and girl. respectfully seven and eleven
lean, occupying a couch across In the oppo
site corner.
While the mother was attending her duties
down stairs she wee suddenly startled about
half-past nlna,cieldck by a child's scream.
Running out and ascending the stairway she
met the first little boy. seven year. old. corn-
ins out; almost suffocated with the smoke
with which the bedroom was tilled. Realizing
the aftuation, the mother Instantly ran Into
the room, and- although still carrying the
babe, moaned to thaw the little girl out of
the apartment. The other bed wareriveloned
in names. ,She wan about returning to
rescue the children in it when her
husband came up and made the nt
tempt. Ile tailed however, and In doing so,
had a portion of hid node burned off, lost his
whiskers read was otherwise so severely
scorched to be rendered Insensible. The
other Inmates of the house, however, managed
to pull him out tolthe fresh air, veherebe subse
quently revived somewhat.

sect ; but they were of no avail. The house

cle woo saved, sot the family lost everything.
Nothing was thought of but the children. The
two who thus fell victims to a terrible death

and blackened bones, hardly distinguishable
from the burnt wood. They were gathered
up. and at twelve o'clock Justice ft . Kerr
summoned a Jury and held an inquest. The
verdict was rendered in accordance with the
fasts. No canoe for the Are could be ascer
tained. but It Is supposed to hare originated
from a defect in the chimney.

Of the victims, or rather the last rites of what
'remained of them, took place yesterday even
lag at flee o'clock.' The whole neighborhood
followed the little coffin containing the last of
two bright forms vivid with life but a few
hours before, to the Uniondale cemetery,
where It one deposited beneath the green
N., steps as yet have been taken to relieve
the sufferings of the living members of the
broken household, but the matter has been
under consideration, and some practical
measurers will be adopted to-day. The occur-

From the Northwestern Independent we learn
of the following new wells in the *oil geld in
the vicinity of Parker, Landing
The Rush well, Is the name of a new strike
on bill, south of Mike Ran, on land of J. W.
Parker. This well Is owned by J. N. Cubblr
son, John Vincent, B. G. Guthrie, Capt. A.
Ayres, Jame* Adams, Wm. U. Brabant, Wm.
Goodwin and Rev. John MeElree. It has been
pumping for some days, yielding considerable
oil, and promises to prove good.
The Isabel,is the name of a new well on
Lease .No. 11. Fowler farm. It ban been pump
ing for some days. and is Yielding aboutlf
teen barrels per day.. Thin well Is owned by
S. M. Kier. W. T. Jackson, Jackson Boggs,
Eno., of Armstrong county. and others. • -
Ridgeway, No. 3. in a new well on-the Fow
ler farm. which has been- pumping for some
days, and Is yielding about 15 barrels per day.
Thin well is owned by Jacob Ridgeway, of
Philadelphia, and others.
The Washington well. on Robinson farm. on
• the hill. hart been down and pumping for some
days, and now yielding about ten barrels

The Turk and Shire well is a new strike on

Era., of Butler county, Black d: Vincent, of

Harding and Hidden, No. g. is a new strike

den, In Just being tested. bat pumped some
oil, and promises to prove good.

Friday afternoon. The large hall was
crowded to overflowing nod many were en

which he wished success to public instruc
tion, he •excused himself from making a
speech.

little girls, the Quartette Club sung the Ml

ceive loud applause.

Saturday afternoon the Pittsburgh visitor,
arrived in the city from Brownsville whither
they bad gone to participate in the Masonic
celebration of St. John's Day. They were in
the best of spirits and .enthusiastic in their
',raises of the slicers.: attending the demon
stration. .
The affair was under the a bspices of Brow

ville Lodge \o. t 1). one of the oldest and bast
Masonic organizations in the State. The del
egation from this vicinity sea: very credit
able one, nearly nil of our Lodges being re
presented. DecgAtlOMlll were also snt from
Uniontown. Meheesport. Connellsvill e e, Mon
ongahela' City. Elizabeth and surrounding
towns.
The exercises consisted principally of a pro
cession and oration. It was originally in
tended to have a picnic also. but this was.
found to Inc Impracticable.
Lodge No.oo first assembled at the Meth°.
diet Episcopal church. .and was forutally
opened by D. D. H. M.. Wm. Chntland. The
Tempters organized at Masonic Hall. About
noon the cavalmule was organized and
marched off in the regular order. About four
hundred masons were in line. and the display
was one of the moat brilliant ever witnessed

scribed route. the line halted In the grove sur
rounding Masonic Hall on Church .reet,where
arrangements had been made for the wee- -
