SATURDAY, June g. IBio. f
It Is aot a little remarkable that While wheat
advanced 3 cents in New York on Thursday:
there was an the same day a decline of 3 cents
Per bushel in Chicago, thus reducing the mar
gin against the shipper. This condition oral
fairs Is the result of excessive speculation,
which caused prices to be pot up to so artifi
cial point. There Is now in store in Chicago
two millions bushel of wheat against a Mae
over two hundred and fifty thousand. bushels
at the same time last year, and the heavy
Stock there is owing to the fact that the re

- meats, as might be expected, were very light.
It is said that Chicago bankers are determined
to 'reduce their loans on grain collaterals.
and this I. not without its effect
In depressing Prieto. no a tight money
market makes the grain speculators generally
anxious to realize, and' many of them are
obliged to sell. The Chicago Tranans of Fri
day says: “The owners of tassels are like
Tantalu.s, who stood up to his neck In water
without being able to taste a drop. Our ware
honserare loaded with grain. which invites
Teasels here; bat the owners can get more
money here for their grain than by shipping it
to the East, and, as a consequence, vessels are
suffered to go round begging for cargoes at
the very time when everybody expected that
vessel-owners would almost be able to name
their own prices. Only six grain charters
were reported.'
