Twenty...lx cars containing 18 head to the
car load, would make en aggregateof 4ts In
-addition to this there was one hundred and
seven head on sale from Butler, Washington,
Beaver and Armstrong counties, making in all
five hundred nod seventy-dee - head. which
in the absence of eastern buyers, was fully up
to those of last week. Some of the drovers
reported the market slow, but as the pens
were attest cleared b3 - nine o'clock, we think
that upon the whole, business was pretty ac=
tire, as the pens are not usually cleared be
fore live 15 o'clock. and sometimes not ant dl
afternoon. As will be seen !prices ruled high
er, good cattle bring 8,56 to OX, with some few

As a general thing. the cattle on sale to-day
were a ge
l
as quality as moat there
being more common stock and a diminished
number of prime to extra st.nrs. such as are
bought by our best. butchers. The number of
Efate cattle on sale today seas unusually
large, while the number from Chicago, was
unneually smolt, and as ft Is probable that the
number of.ouuntry cattle will be increastag,
from this time out: we may expect a dlmie
ishod number front Chicago. Drovers •cannot
think of paying the present prices -In Chicago
and competing, withcountry cattle In this
.market.lt is out of the unestion. One dro
ver, who heretofore has been getting his
stock from Chicago. Informed us that he hint
country cattle to-day and that he sold for
- lower prices and made more money.- As We
have - repeatedly stated, no one Is more anx- '
foes for a decline in prices than the drovers
and botchers, and it Is altogether a mistaken
Idea that they one livany way to blame for
the present high prices. •
