. In an unsettled and
very' unsatisfactor ycondition. and while.
hopes of an early Improvement are still enter
tained. the indications are not encouraging;
there Is. as there has been ell along, consider
able inquiry fur refined, but refiners cannot
accept the prices offered without Incurring a
lots, and consequently. we have but very few
sales to report. Manufacturers would he .
satisfied with a very small tnargin. but when
It comes to doing business at 'Coat or n lola.
especially w ben there is as much risk in- '
volved as in an oil refinery. it is too much.
I And when we come to trace out the cause of
this stagnated sad unhealthy condition of the
oil market wo find the principal and moat
prominent one bo the high freights: it in
thIS more than all 'other causes combined.
and consequently it is not surprising that the
trade do not feel very kindly disposed 'to
wards the Pennsylvania Railroad company"
