A powerful skeleton remain has bean
earthed In the virinity of Mooresville.
organ county. A correspondent from
at place says:
"Supervisor Dray, in opening a new
road, three milen southeast of this place,
on the land of Mrs. Martha ',ether., un.
earthed a skeleton, the like of whith was
never seen before. It has, to t considera
ble extent, the appearance of a human be ,
leg. It was fnund - inalmost a perfect state
of preeervation. 1. made an examination of
the abject discovered today. Standing

Thereare two pmttiberancv4 or horns
coming out on each side, or rather at the
top front, resembling at the bane those of
a. buck sheep, but instead of a curl make a
gradual curve 'awkward. The capacity
for the brain is not more than half as large
as in common for man. The inns arrp,
rently resemble those of man, hut the
greatest curiosity yet Is the prolongation
of-the spinal rolmttn, fanning a tail shoat
a foot long, the end of which shows signs
of decay. Probably in thit living animal
it might have extended to the ground,
and, armed with a tuft °their, have served
as a defence against flee in warm weather.
There in a bony exerewence on the
front .part of each kire is though it had
been formed for walking on the grouted,
in cane of necresity. The feet and hands
are mottle decayed, so that I could net
given definite description of them. Since
the dineoVery people are constantly going
to see the curiosity. The sons of Mrs.
Leathers retest. to let it be taken away.
hnt take great pleasure in showing •it.
The moat difficult part for naturalists to
decide in to what rare or nperies It he.
longs. as I have never 'teen or heard of
anything of the kind before; it cannot be
properly elaineti either with man or quad
ruped.
Tntt following are given in a recently
published work on English surname@ as
