There Is no Improvement to note In the Iron
business, and the prospects In regard to the
future are not very eneournging• ft Is gener
ally believed that there will be no * change
made by the present Congress In the-duty on
metal, notwithstanding the Senate voted to
have It reduced from pa to VI, though the fact
that the matter Is hanging In suspense. tends
to stagnate the metal trade. as operators are:
completely at sea. The sales. as might he ex
pected. are again light this week while prices
are nominally unchanged.
In regird to bar iron and nails, there is but
littie that Is new or Important. Most of the
mill, arc running but business is unsatlafac
tor(•, and there ere those who are impressed
with the belief that there will be no improve
gnent tmUl towards tall. Owing to the low
prices in the east out - eastern trade is almost
gone, and most of the orders now are coming
from the west and south.
