TIMIDLY, April 26, 1370.
The oil market continues strong with'
considerable inquiry, particularly ibe
early deliveries; and while there is in
steence of excitement, the feeling be
gins to prevail again that the bottont
been reached, and 'ticit from We time
forward the tendesicjWill be upward.
Nor is the drmneas Just referred to con.
hued to this market. Exporters are
buying; a' healthy Indication. and It is
this as much as anything else that has
strengthened the market within the pant
few days, and it is this that impresses
the trade with the belief that banners Is
destined to still farther improve. It is
not experded, of course, that we are
destined to have big prices, such as
prevailed last year when spectdation
run high and the market was controlled
by cliques and filmdom, but it Is hoped
that there will ho a good legitimate
business, and that both manufacturers
end dealers will be sanded an oppor
tunity to pursue the even tenor of their
way without being annoyed and hams.

Trade generally, is hardly prink as
hen been within the peat few weeks, anti
.
the markets for moat of the leading eta
plea are becoming sluggish again, and
prices are not as strong. This Is nearly
always the case. Whenever the iMpres
sloe prevahathat prices here touched
the highest limit With a probability of a
decline, the demand at once subsides, as .
the policy then is to reduce and not in;
crease itocks, and.thla accounts for the
wit in o ff in business wit in the past
few days. A week or ton d ye ago, there
was quite an evciteMent In grain, which
was toltotved last weak by little flurry
flout; In the former the excitement has
pretty well subaided, and the latter.
Judging from present Indications, will
soon follow suit. There la no good or
substantial reason why those articles
should rate any higher, end those who
are operating with this ot4ect in view
will airmen certainly be 'disappointed.
