PITTSBURGH lATTLE MARKET

took the trade here by "surPriee,. tom.
tug a I . ltdoes thus early the year; and it
appeared to have a very :demoralizirtg
inneenee on the markets both. in the

10,000 bbla of high priced oil to receive
to-day . the diftereneestinerbibli amount.
(idle :tone E 35,000, and Now York like,
they went under. If it had occured
later in the season it would:not have been
so much thought of, but to ge under at
the drat shock WWI not looked for or ex-'
pepted..Lamt year Pitteburgheristood Up I
to the esratch *tem the dlfferenoes
epithet them were frequent and heavy,
and the New Yorkers made a nice
thing out of it; but this time the shoe
is on the other foot, the differences I
Is against them instead of being In their
favor, and shyster like, they suspend.
This is not the brat case of the kind on
therpest of these eastern operators, nor
is it-likely-ttiet It will be the last one.
They aro all right so long ae the mar
ket goes in their favor, - but in mute It
does net, It Is all wrong—they imme
diately give up the ghost. There are
exceptions, of course, as they are some
highminded and honorable men in the
oil business there, but instal:toes of this
kind are much more frequent there
than here. The attest of this failure
-will be to make Pitteburghers more
.careful-in regard to buyers,. not to en
courage men of this character, and the
sooner they sire driven out of the hilli
ness the better for all coneered. No
man or sot of men have any right to
enter into speculating, unless they are
able and - willing to Stand the rouse•

•
The market has again been very quiet
this week, the males In the aggregate
being light, while In regard to price'
there la no quotable change. If the cat
tle had only been hero the sales would
doubtless have been much larger as
there was an average number of 03.140111
buyers In attendance, including, Briggs,
Dudley, Kelly, Martin, - Klemm. and
Join, all of whom would no doubt have
bought more liberally, If the cattle had
been on mile. It must not be inferred
from this, however, that the demand
war urgent for such was not the case,
nor that buyer, would have paid ox.
tremor prices, as cattle now are fully as
high here, relatively, m Inthe east, and
besides there is a good deal of risk In
handling stock jam now, as an over sop.
ply . in almost any of the eastern
markets is mire to terminate badly for
shippers. Tho receipts at these yards
have been very small for several weeks,
but this la aerially the case at this semen
of the year, and it is likely that they
will continue so until the time for "gra*.
