Affairs In Wall street are extretriely
dull. Private cable telegrams from En
report a very flat market for Amer
sanarities, with a feeling of distrust
regard to the future course of Amer'-
. elan securities. The gold room was
i thronged with an unusually largo batch
of seneation talesman' from Washington
towards the close of the day. First came
Ahe announcement that the St: Doraingo
treaty would be ratified, and afterwards
that it would not. Then the room wits
informed the May interest would be an
tialpfititd. Still later it was reported
there would be a race between the Wayc
and Moans and Banking and Currency
Committees to report the funding bill,
and the very last thing was the inevita
ble daily telegram that the funding bill
was sure to pass.
The Gold Room went - into extra
gession at three o'clock to listen to a re
port from the Committee appointed to
examine the charges against a firm of
waking "wash" or tictitione sales. The
Committee reported the oharges true but

The metal market has been fairly ac
tive this week, the males in the aggregate
being larger than those of twit week,
while in regard to prices there is no
material change. Eastern irons con
tinue to drag somewhat, while western
Iron are pretty wall sold up, and con
sequently the offerings are tot largo,
and there is no disposition manifested to
press sales.
The shipments of manufactured Iron
have been large, both by rail and river,
And the mills are all running to their
fall capacity. In order to enable Pitts
burgh to compete euccosafely for the
eastern
trade, the Pennsylvania Rail
road Company-has made a still further

ment and will he of great adVantago to
oar Iron men, who for some time have
been shipping largely to Philadelphia
