Now by calculating 18 bead to the car
load, the number would be 830 bead, but
there were at least 50 head driven in
from the country which would increase
the number to 680. Ordinarily, this
would lie considered a small supply of
cattle, but for several weeks, the offer
ings . base been comparatively light,
averaging from 700 to BOO; but notwith
standing the small supply to day, It was
noVertheless Dilly equal to the demand,
and we are doubfful.whether they were
all sold. to wo noted in our last report,
cattle are too high, both for drovers and
butchers, and it Is probable that the
stock buelnese wilt continue dull and
uneatisfactory hotit there le a decline.
It la argued that atock, particularly cat
tle and sheep, is higher relatively than
anything else, that while flour, graßt, dry
goods and groceries, have declined very
materially, live stock Is a solitary excep
tion. Dealers generally are very "bear
ish," being strongly Impressed with the
belief in lower prices; this is what makes
them so cautious, and this tends very
materially to retard business and restrict
operations.
It is said, that shippers have not been
making anything recently in copse.
queries of the fact that cattle are relit.

prices are higher relatively in the west
than here." There were two or three
shippers in attendance to-day, including
Briggs anal Martio,•but ws far as we could
learn, they did not buy a single bullock.
"Jimmy" Martin, .perhaps souse allow
, ance should be made for anything he
says, as he is an inveterate bear, pro
nounces cattle entirely too high. though
at this particular time he is backed up
by operators generally.
Compared with last week prices are
