We have the honor to eubmit the follow
ing, as our report for the quarter ending
December 31, 1869: We have Inspecteal
WIT steamers of all cisme, vie: Passen
ger steamier; 8; towing boats, 48; freight
boats, 1; ferry boats, L Tonnage of pas
eenger steamers, 2.678.20; towing boat",
=3.48. Total, 15,472.02. Have leaned
licenses to 78 engineers and 75 pilots.
As this quarter ends the year. no will
give a brief account or recapitulation of
our doings during that time. During
the year we have Impacted 158 steamers,
viz t panel:leer Weiner. 42, towing boats
98, ferry boats 10, freight boat. 0; total
158, having a total tonnage of 4,010,450.
Have Issued licenses to 258 engineers
and 287 pilots. Of the above steamers
27 were new; 120 boiler plates, old and
new, have been condemned, also 4
boiler'. 7 flues have been found defer
live and repairs ordered. 8 boiler heads
have been rejected ns defective. 8
steamers have gone out of service;
steamer was condemned as being unfit
for service as a passenger vessel. 51steem
pipes bursted, in one case no damage of
any consequence, lu the other one life
was last.
.The only accident of note that we have
to report Is the bursting of the main
steam pipe of the towing boat Clipper,
by which the second engineer on duty
wee so badly scalded that he died In •
raw hours afterwards. The accident was
caused by • defect In the pipe of such a
character as to render its discovery very
difficult, If not impossible. Aftera care.
ful examination of the pipe, and Inquiry
into the matter, the engineers are, in our
opinion, entirely_blatnelers.

Many and arduous have been the la
bors of the Managers; faithfully and un
complainingly have they been perform

gemmed the arduous task of collecting,
as well as relieving; looking to their past
success as a guarantee that a generous
public will not be appealed to in vain.

tremely anxious to vote at the next elec
tion." They certainly wish to obtain
their rights as men, and as loyal citizsna,
but there la no evidence in the resolutions
referred to of any extreme anxiety in re
gard to the next election In particular.
