RT. DOlll3OO ANNEXATION.
The treaty for the annexation of San

mercial agent, Mr. Perry, at the city of
San Domingo. This treaty, with the
cret message of the President of he
United States, will be sent to the San e

ment there is no doubt. The governing
motive for the acquisition of San Domin

defense as well - as its general maritime
advantages, and hence as preliminary
the lease of Samuna was effected and
the jurisdiction c f the United State.
established Over that part of the territory
of San Domingo. Several Senators who

negotiation privately assert that San Do.

the acquisition of one will more easily
lead to the possession of the other. ..it
may be'hat the President of the United
States, n this menage recommending
the ratification of the treaty, will briefly
stale his reasons for the negotiation. It
is certain, however, that be has stated
them to some of his meat intimate politi

Although the text of the treaty cannot
now be publicly made known, there is
no doubt that it contains the following
propositions, viz First, the United
States Stipulate to pay the soma $1,600,-

to the liquidation of all the obligations
of the Republic of San Domingo, inckid•

which is represented to be of compare.
tively small amount; third, In case the
ebilgations to be "seamed by the United
States shall exceed the before mentioned
sum of 11,600,000, the public lands of
San Domingo are pledged as security for
the excess; fourth, the liquidation of
the obligations la to be entrusted to
Commlesionen, who are to be appointed
by each of the oontracting, parties: firth.
In consideration of the discharge of them
obligations, San Domingo cedes to the
United States all forts, docks, custo — di

over the territory; sixth, San Domingo
to be annexed or acquired as a territory
and not as a State, and subject to the

tier husband caused the arrest of the in.
mates suspecting her to be among them.
She has a daughter sixteen years old, and
moves in high circles. Several members
of theßoardof Mildewy-re found in the
same house.
Ten action of the New York Legiala
lure in repealing the ratification of the
Fifteenth Amendment Is variously din
cursed. The question thus raised was
discussed by the House Judiciary Com
mittee at the Lest Bearden, and it is under
stood it is to be presented in each branch
next week, so that both Judicial Commit•
tees may make a' report upon It for the
guidance of Congress.
Tits inauguration of Governor Geary
takes place on the 18th inst., and already
the Senate has appointed a committee to
make the necessary arrangements for the
event. There will be a large attendance
on the occasion, and several military or
ganizations from different parts of the
State have signified their Intention of
participating In the ceremonies. :In the
evening the inauguration ball will be held
at Brant's Hall.
IT to understood that on the occudon
of the arrival of Mr. Peabody's remains
at Portland, the United Static govern•
meat will be represented by Its naval of
ficers only. It would not be convenient
for the head of a department to go at this
time, and the suggestion to that effect has,
after consideration, been rejected. It Is
possible the Governor of Massachusetts
may be present to receive the remain@
and to take part In the ceremonies. '
