Quarter Sewtous—Judge Stowe
THURSDAY, January 6.—The cases of
the Commonwealth vs. William Carr,
and Commonwellih vs. hialcolm
ran, cross elute for assault and battery,
reported on trial yesterday, were ,re
warned and concluded. The Jury, after
an absence of about three hours, return.
ed verdicts of not guilty In both cases,
and directed that the prosecutors In each
case pay the costa.

The - next cue taken up was that of the
Commonwealth vat John Craig, indicted
•for larceny by bailee, Bridget Taylor
Prosecutes. It appears that the prose.
cutrix was the owner of a tow, which
strayed from her premises and wu taken
up-by -. Craig, and it seems "ruin his
possession about fourteen weeks before
the proeecutrix ascertained the fact. She
then made a demand on him for the cow,
and he refused to give her up unlade she
would Day him WU, which she refused to
do. It appears further that the cow had
been advertised and sold by the town
ship authorities, and purchased by Craig
for po. The Court Instructed the jury
to return a verdict of not guilty.
The cases of the Commonwealth vs.
John Barber, Indicted for, assault and
battery, and the Commonwealth vs. Wit.
heimina and 'Henry Klonk, indicted for
Interfering with an editor in the dis
charge of his duty, croe. suite. It ap
pears that Barber went to the residence
I of the Kloake to levy on some property,
and attempted to take a horse and wagon
from Mrs. Kionk, and in so doing struck
her In the face. The Bionics resented
the taking of the horse and wagon, be.
cause, as they alleged, they had not been
included in the levy. The jury found a
verdict of not guilty as to. Barber, and
guilty as to the defendants in the other
case, recommending them to the mercy
of the Court
The negt use taken up was the Com
monwealth va. Henry House, indicted
for larceny, Henry Warden prosecutor.
The defendent, ills alleged, was employed
by Mr. Warden, whet le the proprietor of
an oil refinery in Tamperanceville from
where ho stole a quantity of lead, which
was used aa a lining for an oil tank.
The case wax tried some time since and
the Jury failed to agree. On trial.
