The market was comparatively quiet
to-day, that Is the sales wore lighter
than must, but there was neverthe
less a stronger feeling in both crude
and refined, and compared with yenta ,
dsy,•prioes are higher. The trade, gen
erally, seemed to be too much absorbed
in making deliveries and settletrumts to
attend to baying or selling, and as has
been the cue for some time put, there
are very few buyers for any delivery
aside from the shorts, and they, as might
naturally be expected. want nothing but
spot oil. There Is .eonaldsrable con
jecturing In regard to the amount of
oil short, as to how many of those seller
option contracts, remain outstanding
unsettled, and as might be expected,
the estimates on this point are very
conflicting, ranging all the way from
25,000 to 100,000 bets. As we have noted
recently the groat proportion of the
shorts have either delivered - the oil or
paid their'differences, but that there are
some who, as yet, have done neither,
Is evident, . and It le said ' that
there are some who will not meet
their contracts unless forced to do so by
the courts, alleging, as they do, that
means have been resorted to that were
neither right or legitimate to inflate the
