the few who were orl the spot noticed
the thdispasUon to sell at that price, and
ranged themselves on the other aide
and bought. -This brought the large out.
standing short Interest to cover. and to.
day the market gradually advanced un
der rapid fluccuctlons to 121, it which
the market seemed firm. The advance,
however, le due more to the uncertainty
of Mr. BOutwell's polloy in regard to
gold tales and bond pnrchuea for next
month, and the efforts of the large
houses now carrying stocks it high
prices. -
The future price of railroad-shares
is being much discussed at present,
since lower gold may also have the effect
of bringing down the expenses of rail•
roads,whilst large through shipmenta
will increase the gross earnings of the
roads.
Everything considered the gold pre.
minor is more sustained at present than
advanced by a desire.to run up the price.
Bonds are stronger in sympathy with
gold, but not materially higher.
