prosecutor, the jury returned a verdict

In the cue of the Commonwealth vs.
Christian Statfield, indicted for larceny,
Philip W. Hoffman prosecutor, the de
fendant plead guilty, and was sentenced
to pay the meta of prosecution, a fine of
six cents, and undergo an imprisonment
to the county work house for a period of
thirty days.
The next case taken up was the Com
monwealth vs. John Travii, indicted for
the larceny of sight yards of cloth val•
oed at *to, William Digby prosecutor.
The jury returned a verdict of not
guilty.

long hit of homicides which have been
committed in this county within the last

from injuries received in • a barroom
fight, and our court of Oyer and Term

and investigate the facts of another case
of murder. The last victim was John
Blaine, who. It appears, was at Philip
Eictumzenbach's saloon, No. 169 Fifth
avenue, on Saturday, the, llth inst.,
when, It is alleged, be got into a quarrel
with Augustus Ebbert and Junes
O'Hare; which terminated in a tight.'
During the difficulty It appearithat
received a slight wound on his lel
thumb from a knife lu the hands of orie
nt his antsgonlins, which at the time
gave him no concern. He went home
after the difficulty, and in a day or two
afterwards the wound began to pain
him severely, when Dr. Dancan was
°ailed In. Nothing Redone was . appre
hended by the physician until Saturday
morning, when the injured man bad
symptoms of tetanus, and Saturday
evening be died. The Coroner was
notified of the case, and summoned
jury, who were sworn, after which the
Investigation was postponed. -
Yesterday morning Eliza Dining,
widow of the deceaaed, made informa
tion before tho Mayor, charging Ebbert
and O'Hare with murder. A warrant
was issued. and officers Ruch and Strain
arrested them and took them to. the
Mayor's Office. After a partial heiring
they were committed to jail fora further
hearing on Saturday.

when Hartman and Beaconler were
brought•out of their cells for a transfer
to the penitentiary—the former to make
a sojourn of fourteen years and ten

many friends of both parties to bid them
good-bye. Hartman, who had his leg 16
• sling, still suffering from his accidental
seltimpsed• wound, looked as though
ho didn't care shat the situation, while

renewal of its oxygen on the action of

nourialunent from material that has al
ready been carbonized. They . do not
absorb carbonic acid, but on the contrary
they act like animals, absorbing oxygen
and exhaling carbonic acid at all Rime.
It is, therefore, evident their presence in
a room cannot be productive of good re.
sults.
Aside - from the highly deleterious ac
tion that plants may exert on the atmos
phere of a sleepingsroom, by increasing
the proportion of carbonic acid during

portant objection to be urged against their

mals, they exhale peculiar volatile organ
ic principles, which In many cases render
the air unfit for the purpose of respiration.
