the immediate future depends upon the
settee of the Secretary of the Treasury
tomorrow. If he accepts bide for less
than 122, gold, In all probability, will go
much lower, whilst on the other hand,
geld(cuight be kept between 122 and 12.4
during the balance of the season. ,
Government bond. are dull, although
closing at a slight advance. and appear
steady, but the large lots constantly

There was considerable oZeltomont in
the oil market to day, and lane was
again a fair volume, of business in the
aggregate, though, m baa been the ease
for some time past, the great proportion
of the aslcm reported were settlements.
In the present condition of affairs, there
are but very few buyers, that la legiti
mate IhlYgra. nor is It to be expected.
There has been some inquiry for crude
emanating from abort sellers, but refin
ers nahttos pay even 16 Cents, and sell
refined against It at 303: or 31. Thin be
ing the ease manufacturers, generally,are
unable to do anything, many 01 them
have stopped there works, and unletus
there is a very material change, others
will be tibllged to do likewise. Our ex
ports have :alien off materially within
the past three or four weeks, and the
probabliity Is that they will continue
light during the balance of the year.
Toe arrivals of crude continue liberal,

The supply of cattle on sale today
was unusually light, about 900 head, and
