Genes or Prrreacneu GALlerrii,
Dec. 8, 1869.
ti,.. advance of Government bonds
tved a check to day, by the advanc
ing tendency of gold and the decreased
dentsnd of bonds by foreign bankers
W Mtn the President's menage and the
retort of Sir. Boutwell were tele.
graphed, large unlimited orders were
recteteed for the purchase of bonds from
ifm rope, on the aupposition that green
backs would approach nearer the gold
value, and that perhaps gold would sell
at less than 120 per cent., the cases be
ing reversed bonds may react.
Gold opened at 122 before the board,
and sold rapidly up to 123%, declining
to 123,i1, and closing at 123340124, with
a dull business.
It is generally conceded that gold will
advance during the present month, yet
the speculative movement la confined
to a very limited number who hold gold
at high prices, and of warrse are an: -
lettere ass it. higher. Whatever the
policy o:Congretei may be regarding the
financial qUe.stion, on ri d s ust not be
overlooked, tui far as the future
price of gold, namely, the large die
bursements of January next and the
dispraition of foreign bond holders to
remvest In our securities. if tends ad
vance in Europe, gold must decline
with at least bu ma llet:a in the New
York Banks, for which there is *be,
lutely no use for some time to nue.
Should gold go lower before the orders
for the spring imr reunions go oat. we
may then look for increased imparts of
licreritalso iron,
stria, silks and
other tex t iles , which may again lead to
eix I ore' of et ode sad an advance on the
geld premium.
Stocks are very bouyant under the
firm feeling In gold, but the outside
public dose Dot seem to take any Mint
est in Recreant prtzeecingn in Wail
Street. The general impression prevails
that stocks meat go lower, with lower
gold premium, and the chances of nett
ing °wales, went for cap an tal in others
remunerative Indy stria' undertaking.
