half-stater of my mother. I lived with

to work for 'DM:lint Graham, and worked
for him about two years and a half.
Some time ago I wrote down on paper

used to live, and then to George Me-
Oandlees' house; when I was by Mc-
Candless' bonne I beard some one
earning &sin the road; I then got over
the fence and went below the road ; the
person was Isaac Brannon; about lisle
time I believe I heard some one wan
talking inside of the house and
saw a light; the Demons who were
talking outside of the house went in;
I then soon went down to the house
and looked In a window before

heard a noise like chairs being moved in a
hurry and like some one mite have fell to
door when I got down to Graham's I
got theft= put away that night without
them knowing it; that night after I got
to bad I heard Mr. Graham talking to
some one outside of the bonne; soon af
ter, before I got to sleep. I beard Mr.
Graham coming up stairs; when he came
up he told me that Annie McCandleas

window ; that night when I went
away from McCandless' house I went

Win disfigured her. When I thot of the
noise like some one falling to the floor,
yet I could not think she was killed, al
ter having it in my mind so long only
for to disfigure her. The next day,
which wee Sunday, I was arrested. On
the 19th of Aprils, 1869, my trial com
menced, and the Jury returned a verdict
of guilty in the fire; degree.
ANOTHER MURDER PLANNED.
There is another circumstance which
I will relate, for I wish all to be known:
Emmy 74111 McCandlcsa la a empire of
Annie's. In the winter of 1888, Mmmy
Ellis got married: one evening I hoard
she was to be married the next day; I
heard so from a person who came from
there, I expected some one would take
Annie over In a deign: the next morn
of the day she was married I
went away from Graham's as early
as I conldt went over night to George Mc
Oindiess house on a road which any ono
would have for to take to go where
Emmy Zills McCandlesaes father lived.
When I got on the road nigh George
McCandiesses I waited to see If any one
would come from McCandleasea, for I
expected Annie mile go over to where
Emmy Ellis'. father lived with some
one. I Intended. if so, for to meet them
on the road and stop them. I had a
pistol with me, and I intended
for to make them go back. I had no
Idea who would take bar over, but I
toot some one mite. I wetted for some
time, but aaw no one.- Some time
throgh the day I went to George Din.
Candlesses but they did DOt know Rmuly
Zino wet. going to be married that day.
Annie was In the house, act I bad all my
trouble for nothing. yet I wee glad
enough things were so.
THE %AWE N.IIIRE OP MAN.
I believe that Is all that I know to
peticular, ezoept one thing, which I will
speak about, which shoats the weak na
ture of man. I believe it was the Oral
summer I worked for Mr. Graham. For
some time I felt downhearted and mei
ancoly. One day I felt as if I would
rather be dead than living. I was out
waken a dick for some waiter to run
in. I was working with a spade.
When I was working I broke
the spade. I then felt too had about how
things was, and how much bother I
canoed, that I Intended for to kill myself
and ells° for to kill Annie MeCruidleas
I Intended for to get a revolver and for
to shoot her, and then for to shoot my
self. I went one day for to get a revol
ver, but did not get one. The that after
wards went out of my mind, and as
I said before, alter my trial, the Jury re
routed a verdict of guilty In the drat
degree. On the loth of September,
I
1869, I was sentenood to death, and am
have said, and !hall say, fur to tell the
truth, I never fired that shot with the
Intention for to kill Annie McCandless,
nor I could not now say otherwise with
the serum knowtedg of eternity before
me. For on the Mt of this month, No.
+limber 1889, I beard the death warrant
from t he Governor. We all must die
sometime, sooner or later. Life Is un
certain and death !a shore. May all for
give me who I have wronged and I

OPERA HoPsE.—The grand complimen
tary testimonial Benefit tendered Mr.
and Mrs. Barney Williams last night,
drew together an Immense audience,
such an one In point of number and
fashion as we seldom have mean assem
bled in this popular place of amusement.
During the evening between the acts,
the reeplente were called before the and.
toln and Mr. Williams was enveloped in
a shower of bonnets. Barney made a
neat and pungent speech in which he
gratefully referred to the warm welcome
ever extended to him in Pittsburgh, and I
to the kind treatment of Manager Can- I
mpg and the excellent support received
from the first clue stock osmpany now
figuring on the boards at the Opera
Bongo.
This afternoon a grand fashionable
matinee will be held, at which both Mr.
and Mrs. Wilitains will appear in favorite
characters. Tonight they appear the last
time prior to their departure for Europe.
Prrrenution TitaTax.—The attend
ance at this popular and favorite resort
last night was very large, bet not too
large for the character of the entertain
ment afforded, which was exceedingly
good. Manager Williams has lifted the
rag off the bush this SIM= and fully we
tabliabed the character and reputation
of the "old Drury." This afternoon and
evening performances will be given,
when the . 4 ild Brother Minstrels" and
die eccentid "Little Mac" will appear
for the last line this season.
Tux Ace ENT.—The audience at the
Academy t night was very !ergs, and
not a seat Idft unoccupied. The
Drummer y ofIllhiloh" would run for
a month 10 ger If 'ket on the boards In
as good fit le as it is new presented.
This afternoon a fashionable matinee
: will be held, and in the evening the
final performance for the week will be
given. The great historical play will be
repeated every evening next week.
