ChrSloe or Prrnontnun Gamma,
FRIDAY, NOVZhibor 19, 1869.
'The money market was more buoyant
to day, than for some time MM. In
governments a very decided upward
movement was inaugurated from the
improved tone of the European quota
tions based upon the surmises that the
President's message will express a deter
mination to bring our depreciated cur
rency on a more steady oasis, approach
ing the gold standard at an early day,
and also recommending to Congress
measures which will aim ate further

the advance more directly II the fad.

Gold was reported to have been put
down to-day by at Ciliate' means, the so
called washes, which have been name
careful within the lest few weeks, but it
les= our opinion that the market for
gold at or above Id 4 was kept there by
the efforts of the holders of stocks, who
do ail in their power to keep the money
market easy for the sake of disposing of
their watered stock and railroad bonds.
On the other•hand it Is thescrvernment 'a
policy to keep down gold, and If possible
to put it tower before the meeting of
Congress, In order to have laws

the administration. If President Grant

in favor of seeing everything else come

The stock market was very lively and

, 'Any attempt on the part of large holders
of stook to sell, forces down the market

PITTSBURGH IRON HAItILET
Orrion or PITITIBIII3BII Eisserve,
FRIDAY, November 19, 1869.
There is a continued steady demand
for metal and with rather limited arri
vals and a light stock, the market is
firm, though prim, are not quotably
higher. While the demand le generally
'for immediate consumption, yet we are
informed that there Is some inquiry for
future delivery, which indicates that
come parties at least, have faith in pres
ent prices being maintained. We do not
believe, however, that any considerable
amount of metal could be void for for
ward delivery, az there are not many of
that kind of buyers in this market.
In regard to manufactured Iron there
is but little that is new or important.
Orders are beginning to full off .lightly,
but this Is usually the one at Ibis sea
son of the year, and, bander,. there is no
siZak, sa moat of the mills are sold close
up.
