The oil market continues quiet though,
as might 'be expiated, very sensitivoN
and while there Is little or nothing do
lag prices, compared with yesterday,
have undergone no quotable change. It
anything, themarkot is a little weak,
with rather more disposition to sell,
some holders, we understand being aux
lona to realize, but thusfar there is no
dlycidtion manifested to make 4 eorietla
alone In order to effect sales; and what is
true of this market is equally applicable
to tboseother markets in the east u well
as in the oil regions, and there la a feel•
ing of restlessness and uncertainty,
which does not Indicate a healthy' state
of trade, and the worst feature Des In the
fact that there is no prospect of 'any im
mediate improvement. There has been
or much excitement recently that opera

aftaird to make a move for fear It might
be made In the wrong direction.

"Loometzza, Kr.. Nov. 12, 1869.
emirs. Geo. L. Johnston h Co.—Gents:
Your favor of 19th of Oat. came duly to
hand and econtents noted, and would
have been answered sooner only for de.
lay necessary to the procurement of anal
points es Woulffainable me the better to
answer your lations. The Louisville
Bridge Co. have placed obetructims
screen the Indiana theta, and will not
remove them until they complete the
span across the main channel. They
think they will be through and have the
obstruction removed by the let of De
cember. Should the river rise snilicient
to give eight feet in the Indiata chute,
boat. drawing five or five and half feet
can pans down through the middle
chute. The draw, being built acmes the
head of the falls, will not be completed
this winter, and when It is completed,
will leave an opening of 230 feet. When
the Bridge Co. removes the false work
they have in the chute, there will be no
obstruction. In the old canal they have
a guard lock, which they use In high
moor, and peas steamers until there is
fifteen feet water on the falls. There la
no guard lock on the new canal, and at
eleven feet on the falls they will be ren
dered useless, unless they build • guard
lock, which is talked of, at a coat of $50.-
000, and then they can paws boats at all
stages. It is impossible to tell when the
new canal will be Opened to puss boats
through. Gun. Weitzel Is about con
tracting to have some work done on it,
built can not be widened and completed
until another appropristlon In made.
When the canal Is rendered useless,
there will, at 15 feet on the falls, still be
70 feet under the bridge. At the pres•
erg stage there is 804 foot in the middle
chute, and 94i feet in the Indian chute.
It may vary a little from these figures,
but the difference will be trifling.
"Respectfully,
PINK Vennws, Falls Pilot."
