WEDNESDAY, November 3, 1869.
The "bulls" seem to have relaxed
their hold on refined slightly to-day, as
compared with yesterday, it is fully
half a cent !ewer, but, as him been the
case ail the week, there are no seller's
here, acarcely, at any price. The market
la in that excited sad manipulated con
dition that operator., generally, are not
disposed to do anything .her to buy
or sell, preferring rather to hold off and
await further development, The "bull
ring," as it is familiarly termed, con
tinues to have the upper hand of the
trade, and it looks at present as if they
would be able to have it their own way
for borne time to come, unless, an re
marked by a el:temporary, some of them
should tarn in and unload on the sly;
this if it should occur, and if discovered,
as it would be, sooner. or later, would
undoubtedly create a disruption, and
this le what the •'shorts," better known
as the ' , Mears," are anxiously hoping
for. Axt noted in our last report, the
••bulls" are credited with owning and
controlling about 100,000 bbla of oil,
crude and refined, and so Matt as they
carry this and buy what la pot on the
market, Just so long will they be able to
keep prices up, and, possibly, put them
higher still. But Jule, so soon as the
"bull-party" commences to sell or mani
fest a desire to call, the natural infer
ence is that the market will weaken and
decline.
The market is quiet and without Im
portant change. sales 2,000 seller all
year at 15%; 500 seller lb days at 16; and
2,000 spot (40®46) at 16%. November
and December together, nominal at 16%.
Private telegrams from Oil City report
the market stronger on the creek, and
prows higher.
The Refined market was easier to-day,
and compared with yeateday, prices are
a shade lower. November, which was
quoted yesterday at 36®36%, was quoted
this afternoon at MN: December, also, is
lower, 2110384%. There was a cargo
sold in New York, to day, to go to the
Mediterranean, at 62 franca, which is a
franc more than any quotation yet re•
calved here.
