The doelints In gold to MN thin af
ternoon has engaged the attention
not ouloy of a large elm of our
00Mmeretal community, but also
of capltallata and the public In general,
an It conches not only the pocked' of one
or the other Interest, but everybody hu
something at at Ake Just now worth white
looking after. A further decline
whether permanent or temporary, will
affect values of any kind, and the rich
bond holder who dreamed of his In.

will find himself about 10 or 15 per
poorer and feel the worse for It, na
there was no clan of the community
more granting as the very men who
bought Governments at 95 or 96, as the
case may have been. The great depression
In gold, no matter what tbs. Ultimate
result will be, must bring a sharp rally
which may carry the premium se much

did in lie downward contact, but that
gold spew:dad= does not have the force
it formerly posessed there is no doubt,
and those who calculate on high
figures during the balance of the year,
merely from speculative muses may be
sadly disappointed to the benefit of all
chums.
Government bonds are dull and heavy
with a fair prospect of lower prima.

The oil market continues to rule
strong, and compared with yesterday
prima have still further advanced, and
even at the advance, buyers were more
numerous than Sellers. As is nearly al
ways the case on an advenoini merhet.
Bailers are very backward about soiling,
being apprehensive that they might be
"picked up," and consequently they
prefer to hold back until aidlefied that
the top has been reached. It wee re
ported to-day that the most-of the buyer
options this year had loan "called." and
as but very few of these were sold above
34(4.34)i, many of them at 335, there la a
very handsome margin In the present
condition of the market.
The Titusville Herald of Monday has a
very interesting article 'on the "bull
movement," In which It alleges that it
was brought shout and is being engi
neered by Pittsburgh and Philadelphia;
I that they have recently bought 100,000
I Mini of actual oil, crude and refined, all
of which is held out of the market. The
Herald also alleges that the great pro.
portion of the October contracts werenet
tled on a basest of 38, and that some of the
"shorts" were badly. - "vei
have lost heavily. TI
non is concluded as P
