Shovelin. was called up for sentence.
Before the sentence was passed, defend.
ant's counsel spoke highly in his favor,
and urged the Court to exercise such
clemency as was consistent with the de
mands of the law, and the proper pro
tection of the public. Grimm also made
a few remarks, and asserted that on.the
night of the murder he had no malice
whatever against the deceased. He watt
then sentenced to undergo an imprison
ment of six years in the Western Pent
tentiary.
Roger Brooks, who plead guilty to a
charge of orse stealing, was next called
up. Be gaffe a detailed statement to the
Court respedtthg the occurrence, and as
serted that a man named Crawford, who
Is now in California. was his accomplice.
The defendant was sentenced to the Pen
itentiary for two years, and required to
pay the costs of prosecution.
Henry Gauntschey, convicted of ma
licious mischief, was sentenced to pay a
hoe of live dollars and the cosh. of prose
cution.

yard, occupied by the tenants of two

thieves gained access to this court yard
