Under this head there are numberless
causes for complaint. but at present we
desire to refer to but l a few .of the most
prominent:
A. most grievous nuisance is the con.
gregating of loafers in front of places of
amusement. 'We have called he at
the
of, the L police to this matter, . and
toped that ere this it Would have been .
abated.
Another great annoyance is the custom
of teamsters and drivers of vehicles gen•
erally drtving so close to each other at
street crossings as to' detain pedestrians
forfrom five to ten minutes, and in some
cases endangering the lives of ladies and

children.
Another nuisance to which we have re
ferred to on a previous occasion,la the cor
ner loafing which stilt prevails to a great
extent
i ut fortunately the cold weather
whi is rapidly approaching will abate
it.
Then we have peanut and fruit venders
on every square of every principal thor
oughfare in the city,_ occupying from
one-fourth to onethird of the sidewalk
with their steads.
There is another snd more dangerous
nuisance than any of those named, "thick
requires the attention of the authorities,
and that is the practice,' indulged in by
fast young tansl riding end driving fast
ever streets' and crossings, continually
endangering the lives of pedestrians, par
ticularly of ladies and children.
There are numberless Other causes of
complaint. but we deem It suffielent to
call attention tetbe - foregoing at present
and will revert to the others at some fu
ture time.. • . ,
