ceries, left Memphis on last Friday.
—The Maggie Hays arrived at St.
Louis on Monday, and the Camelia •left
Cincinnati for the same port on Monday.
—The White River packet Natonoa, on
her up trip, picked up a snag in White
river, near Des Arc, which pierced a
small hole in her hull, causing her to
take two and a half feet of water, which
damaged some of her freight.
—The Memphis Avalanche of Saturday
says: Mr. Thomas J. Johnson, a well
known steamboat carpenter and con
tractor, was married on Thursday night
to Miss Virginia Bossy, an accomplished
and beautiful young lady.
—The Leavenworth Commerciat,
the 6th says that the colored- individual
who engaged the steamer Tempest to
make a trip down the river, undertook
to pay 16160 for the passage. Every
thing
,was in readiness and • the black
folkeon board, when it was found that
the subscriptions only amounted to 1325.
A leading barber of the city then
mounted the gangway plank and ad
dressed the crowd, advised them to
muster up the balance and allow the
steamer to proceed. The company,
however, elected to pay only that
amount and take it out as ifar as it
would go in dancing, which they did.
