Osoncor or Prrnieurias GAZETTE,
. FRIDAY, Sept. S. 1889.
Government bonds are fluctuating,
rapidly following the market for gold.
It is evidently the desire of the clique
in gold to depress quotations in Enropo
for our bonds, in order to advance the
rates on gold. So far the quotations
from Furope are very favorable, and it
appeaia our securities are in better de
mand now than ever.
Gold sold from 185 X to 136%, the dos.
ing quotations at 2 1.. H. The market. .
however, is in a condition to break as
soon as the clique begin to sell, which
most likely will be .between this and
Wednesday next.
Stocks are weak and dull, tending
downward. Money easy,

'The market closed strong last night,
and opened firm this morning, but in the
afternoon there was a slight reaction,
and the advance, previously:Established,
was partially lost. This upward move
ment is attributed to the material fall
ing off in the shipments, as well as the
fact that the impression prevails in New
York that molt of our refineries have
suspended operations, and operators
there who are short are a little apprehend
sive, and inclined to cover. The ad- •
yenta to-day, however, is more directly
attributed to the operations of two large
New York houses, who had orders to
buy several thousand barrels for this
month, and a pretty sharp competition
brought about the result already allud
ed to. In proof of this it is asserted
that after these orders were filled, there
were no other buyers at the advance,
and, as a consequence, the figures that
were realized in the forenoon could not
be obtained towards evening. That' the
market is stronger than it was yesterday
and the day previous, is conceded, and
the general feeling at ds time is that
prices will probably go higher, and this
is assumed on the ground of a suspen
sion of operations by out refiners, and
diminished shipments to the seaboard.

PITTSBURGH IRON MARKET.
OFFICE (: . IF PITTEIBITROTE GAZETTE,
FRIDAY, Sept. 3, 1869. 5
The only noticeable feature in the
metal market this week is a material
falling off in the receipts from the West,
which may be attributed to the fact that
many of the furnaces, both in the Ma
honing and ShenEtngo Valleys, have
gone out of blast. The demand, , how
ever, is only moderate, and is confined
mainly to small lots for immediate
consumption, the inquiry for future de
liveries being light. In regard to price?,
there is no change, one way or the other,.
worthy of special notice. Following is
the report of sales.
