The metal market, compared with
last week, presents no new characteris
tics worthy of special notice. As will
be seen by reference the report of sales,
there is a fair volume of business in the
aggregate, for the season, and notwith
standing -the demand Is only moderate,
prices, nuder the influence of a light
supply, are well sustained, though 1111-

Is bro ght to a sudden termination,
many of the eastern furnaces will
be obliged to go out of blast for want of
fuel.
There is rather more inquiry for man
ufactured iron and nails, and orders are

recent advance, but manufacturers still
report the trade iu an unsatisfactory
condition, and very small margins.
The indications, hoWever, are favorable
for a good fall business, and it is possi
ble that there will be less cutting than
for some years past, at least it is hoped
