NEW ADVERTISEMENTS
tTHE OTHER IHDE.—From
the tone of certain articles which have
Sneered in tne newspapers lately, tie public
may have been led to think the live men of
Pittsburgh and Allegheny have been practicing
'unjust and unwarranted extortion o them by
charging :lire dollars per carriage to l uerals in
the city. - At least that is the only tetain the bill
of prices adopted by the Livery ifen"s Assccia
,
tion to which the gentlemanly proprietor of a
Penn stro, t stable takes exception 111 his self
cleoled thamploniiiip orwhat he would lead the
public tn believe are their rights. That this rate
for funerals is not exorbitant hut simply fair and
jest, we propose to allow. Previous to the war
the rates for funerals were: to Aliegneny and St.
Mary's Cemeteries, $3
_Per carriage; to other
nearer Cemeteries,s2 50. There was no in
crease In tease orices untilsktober '63.although

•ISts to 4411 and $5O In 'O4l oats from 25 cents
per'busbel to 90 and 93 cents, and labor and all
other exp enses to at least double what they were
in '59. This belly a plain statement In the care
the assertions of the Penn street reformer are
&imply false, end we are compelled to take tale
course to place ourselves right before the public.
Below we append a statemeat of the cost of pro

We commend t.ne above to the careful consider

will be beuentted by th- moral there set forth In

it seems to us pas P &rinse that It has tsken

that we •desire nothing more from our business
than a fair and reasoursole profit, and that the.
Liverymen's Association was not originated for
the purpose or unjo/ tly raising livery rates, and
that all such timputatlons cast on us are false,
unjust and slanderous.
