OFFICE OF PITTSBURGH GAZETTE,'
THURSDAY, AUgDlit 19,1869.
The sales were unusually large to-day,
larger than any preceding day for some
time-past, but compared with yesterday,
refined is lower, and crude is weaker,
with more offering, and futures are
lower: The trade generally. however,
continues in an unsettled and very un•
staisfactory condition, and the indica
tions for the future are not as bright as
could be desired. In the present con
dition of affairs, there is nothing in the
business for either refiners or dealers,
and even "outsiders" who'heretofore,
would occasionally take a "venture,"
have, as a general thing withdrawn, and
are giving their time and attention to
their -regularavocations, not caring to
take the risk attending a venture of this
kind when it promises no return.

OFFICE OF
TRUES
The most i portant feature we - have
to notice is slight weakness in the
grain market,'which is in consequence
of the advices from the west, together
with unfavorable new frcim Liverpool,
at which placela sharp decline is report- •
ed.
There were rumors some little time
ago that the weather in Europe was un
prosperous to the growing crops, and on
the strength of this report prices there
took an upward turn, but during the
past few days the dispatches from that
country have uniformly quoted fair
weather; and prices are now tending
downward. The indications now are
that unless there is a turn in the foreign
market, prices must recede.
