The gold market seems to have reach ed its lowest point for the present, 'to day opening at 133 and closing at The large short interest uncoyere& i kvill do more than anything else to sustain the market, if not cause an ,advancizi of probably several points. Cash gold is getting searcer, and sometimes it will command no interest either way. Government bonds opened dull, but on gold becoming firmer, advanced fully one, per cent., and closed strong. It seems that bonds are scarcer at the present low figures, and that the con tinued purchaseS by the Government will absorb the entire floating stock on the market, and then keep up the ES, price Stocks are dull and heavy, but ne materially lower. The preliminary papers have been aigned for leasing the Toledo and Wabash rail road to the Lake Shore Company, and the directors of the latter are in session on the matter. The terms of the propo sed lease are a guarantee of 6 per cent. per annum on the common stock of the Wabash for the first year, 7 per cent. for the second year, 8 per cent. for the third year and equal dividends with the Lake' Shore thereafter. It is stated the thing is likely to be carried through, but nothing-has been officially announced in regard-Wit. The railroad question has not yet been settled, but indications. fa vor an early adjustment of the difficul ties between the various roads. The receipts yester- • . day and to-day were quite large, unusu ally so, and with all the pens full, and buyers generally holding back, the mar ket was very dill to-day, and 'compared • with last wee, prizes have jdeclined from a quarter'to half a cent per pound. . i The very best shipping steers, which soldiast week at 8 and even 84, would not bring above 7% today, and- this figure could only be realized for the • i very best grade. The great proportion • . of the cattle on sale consisted paainiy - of the lower grades, and for this kind of stock buyers are scarce, and the few bu 3 ers that are here do not want_ to pay present asking prices, but are disposed to hold off, in hopes that by so doing they • will be enabled to force a decline, and it loots now as if they would be successful. SHEEP. The supply onatieep on sale this week is unusually large. mainly of the lower grades. anti with a supply in excess of the demand, prices, compared with last week, are down from 25 CO 50 cents per cwt. We now quote good to prime at 4@)4%, and extra at 5, and lair to in ferior at from 3% down to almost noth ing. We are cognizant of one bunch of fancy sheep, from Indiana, having been said at 5%. but this is an outside figure and cannot be taken as a criterion of the market. It is more than likely that most of the sheep men, we mean those who brought sheep here to sell, lost money. - - - HOGS The hog market, compared with last week, has undergone little or no change. The arrivals ` today were unusually large, but prices are still pretty well sus tained. Phitadelphia hogs quoted at 10305104;, and Yorkers at 934@9X.
