ALLEGHENY CATTLE. MARKET
OFFICE OF PITTSBIJRCH GAZETTE,
• MOICDATi• July .2 8 .' 1889 -
There was a fair supply of cattle on
sale todav, about 650 head. The • sales
foot up nearly 800 head, but it should
be borne in mind that some droves were
wholesaled and afterwards retailed, and
cunseqUently; reported twice. :Thesup
,
ply, however. was fully up to the de
mand, and had it not been • for - some
outside buyers there would have been
quite a number _left over unsold; and
even with the ptaishice - of shipPers the
market was a little tame and with the
exception of of prime fat . stefars, prices
compared with last week , ruled lower.
SOme few extra brought 8 cents but the.
great proportion of the best cattle sold
at from 7g@73/ 4 , and medium to good,'
at 6g634. Stock cattle continue - dull,
but unchanged:at •4rgi53.4".L 1 .
Of the Cattle on sale today, there were
24 car loads from the West, as follows:
Chicago.' 6; 'Cincinnati 2; Forrest, 1;
Mansfield, 8; Mt. Viotbry, 2; Fort Wayne,
1; Alliance, 1: Barnesville, 1 . , and 4 cars of
• which we did no; learn the plane of ship
ment. In.addition there were 161 ,head
State cattle, 64 from Washington Co; 91
from Green and 6 from Butler—last week
there were over 200 head from these
counties.
In regard to quality the offerings to
day were about up to the standard of the
past month, and about what is generally
.expected this season of the year, consist
ing mainly of medium grass cattle—not
the kind sought after, by Aio. 1 butchers.
As a consequence, allthe hest cattle on
sale were pickedup at full pnces, while
the common grades wers..very slow, and
did not bring relatively as good figures.
