The decline of our bonds in London
on Friday last from 833; to 83, gaVe rise
to a firmer feeling in the gold room, and
the further decline to 82X, and 87X in
Frankfort on Saturday, was the forerun
ner of graaual advance in gold from 1353;
to 13634. The large short interest of
speculators and importers. as well as the
published programme of the Treasury.
department for August, indicating the
payment of more currency for the pur
chase of eleven millions of bonds, and
the sate of only two millions Or gold,
' give the gold market an appea i rance of
unusual str6ngth, and we must not be
surprised to see the market advance
from 3 to 4 per cent. during the week.
Our big delayed exports of. specie in
the hope of finding a market. again for
our bonds, have at last begun,:and the
consequence of overtrading must be
plainly visible to every intelligent mer
chant or banker. The low rate of gold
last December and the efforts or the
Chicago grain speculative cliques have
prevented a free export of our produce,
anti the low currency price of cotton
gave the importers and exporters the
ad vantage of buying more extensively
of foreign manufactures at low rates.
The dullness of business in general in
duced many a merchant of the sea
ports to try his hand at speculation ad
ventures, whereby he lost his capital and
enriched the already wealthy .specala-

to mention the doings of the wealthy
class of Railroad operators who plun
dered friends and' foes alike in their wa
tering,of the snare capital of nearly every
road of the country. The question is
daily asked, what becomes of the money
or the representative of money, the pa
per manufactured for that purpose.
The circulation seems to be out, yet , ac
cording to the books of the Treasury de-
I pertinent a large amount 'is lying
idle in the Treasury vaults, placed there

business channels. Again the Treasury
withdrew a very lame amount of cir
culation from the National . Banks and
placed it .in the Sub-Treasury and its
depositories, where it is as well as if it
was not in existence. These deposits in
the National Banks formed a very e -
semial - part Of their•discount capital, and
was a great aonice of profit to them.
But. more than all, the country requires
double the capital:of 1363. The country
being more extended for business pur-
poses, in time of 'distrust double
the circulating medium is required in
camp orison to.llmes when ,credit fuxn-
tains the larger part of the medium of
eachange.

REVIEW FOR THE wFEK.
The oil market has been ( more active
during the .past week, the sales in the
aggregate having been large, both for
present and future delivery, and with a
stronger feeling. Prices, compared with
last week, area shade higher. The de
mand comes from exporters as well as
New. York "shorts," both of whom have
been buying pretty freely, and the great
proportion of it has been sold by
Pittsburgh. As intimated in our last
report, New York is said to be , largely
"short" for this month, while Pitts
burgh is "long," and as a consoquence
the latter is selling while the former
buying, which is all right, with the ex
ception that Pittsburghers would like to
have better prices. July oil advanced
about a quarter to-day, and August also,
was stronger and higher. '
. A private dispatch from Philadelphia,
to-day, furnishes the following particu
lars In regard to stocks in that market.
Stock in warehouse 43,098 bbls.
Charters made 45,650
Of which there is board 8,750
Tonnage yet to be filled 36,900 bbls.
Excess over tonnage__ ......... 6,098 bbls.
This does not include the oil en route •
from Pittsburgh for the past three days
