FINANCE - AND TRADE.
Omou or Pimastruezt GA...Tarts,
TRuEsDAY, July 15, 1269.
When the cable dispatches brought
information this morning from London
that the Bank of England had reduced
its rates of interest, the firmer feeling
in gold subsided, atd gold showed
symptoms of weakness, opening at 136%
to 137, and closing this evening at 136%.
This policy of the Bankof England will ,
draw large amounts of money to New
York, and exports of specie are thereby
checked, and a new impetus to •bond
speculation is thereby given. Although
it is not likely that gold will decline ,
very much during the present and next
month, the bull element is less confi
dent for the present. With an easier
market, however, and during the month
of August higher rates are ,likely to
prevail. The powerful cliques in stocks,
together with the foreign bankers, have
a common interest in forcing up gold
before the shipments of this yearis crops
and cotton begin. The foreign bxnkers,
in particular, hold some gold at 144,
which they will make a desperate ef
fort to sell again with a profit. Bonds
are lirm, but scarcely as high as yes
terday. More sellers make their ap
pearance, and with lower gold • a reac
tion is likely to take place.
Stocks are artificially bid up, but
prices are ,barely sustained whenever
any sellers appear.
Money easy. \
