The violent Changes in the gold, bond
and stock markets of yesterday , IR the
downward course, were repeated to-day
in an upward direction. The movement
was besed on the purchase of gOVern-

meht Ix:44s by the Treasury, which was
supposed would lead to an easier money'
market, and higher rpiotations for bonds,'
gold and stocks.
Gold opened's? 136, declined to 135%,
advanced to 136 again„ dropped .to 135y 4 .
andetronger at 135%. A large and In
fluential clique have sold out their
gold from 137 down to 131, for the pur-:
poSe of taking it In again at a lower ;av
erage, and for the purpose of forcing
down bonds and stocks. The future
course of gold depends on the ease of
the money market, and the actual Rhin
-
merits of coin. The preasure for re
mittances to Europe in .some shape Is'
'favorable to a rise, and probably,..as
sisfed by combinations of stuck opera
tions, may be worked up to a very high
figure. •
Government bonds advanced aboift
one per cent, but closed a little -easier.
Stocks' have advanced abotit five per
cent. in, the average, but a sharp reao
tion may be looked for during the bal l
ante of.the week. An easy money mar:
ket, howeferi may advance the entire
list beyond the highest quotations. yet
