The larg,(o rise in stooks and tionds, and more so the Sim tone of the gold market in _the face of the heavy die burementk,ky-thenited States Treas. c:2l ury, surprised eiOry body, and no body seems to be able to account for it. The same Parties who forced up bonds and stocks, sustained, gold by, the offers to purchase large amount, in expectation to have it carried cheap over the fourth of July. The disburse ments of cash gold, however, were very large to-diy, and finally the price dropped down from 137% to 13i. Most of the large holders of gold are disap pointed in finding the amounts for ship ment to'Europe so insignificant, and in stead see bonds take its place, which is indicated by the increased demand and advance.of bonds. To-day new issues of 5-20 s being quot-. ed ex.lnterest are selling relatively one half per cent higher than yesterday, and quite in demand. The offerings of bonds are very light, and few holders are dis posed to increase, their lot - at present high quotations. Fiem this fact it may be fairly supposed that) as soon as the European demand, lit satisfied, bonds will range lower, the more so since the Treasury us - arriving at , a gradual con traction- of the' culrenoy, and ether more remunerative investments are offered: . Stocks are -, very . ' firm and have ad vanced despite the 'high rates for money. It seems; however, as if tihe short in-' terests were nearly covered, and a read tion may be expected after July the fourth. ; Money is , Coirparitivelyeere, and good borrowers can be shipped at 9 to 10 per: cent.
